Business owner challenges are invariably never far away. With a tough love approach, I want to guide you to some challenges faced by entrepreneurs or small businesses and how to overcome them.

Overcome start up challenges as mere bumps in the road

While it’s not an approach I often favour, I believe there’s a time and place for some real talk once in a while, and today is that time and place. As business leaders, whether you’ve set out on your first adventure as a startup leader or as a seasoned business owner, we will all end up overcoming challenges at some point in our careers. Nevertheless, we all expect things to be too easy, and with wishful thinking, we want a smooth run at it all without too many bumps in the road. When it comes to overcoming startup or business challenges this is about as likely as picking up a tennis racket for the first time and winning Wimbledon within the month. It just doesn’t happen, and, to be honest, I think that’s a good thing.

“Nothing in life worth anything is easy.” – said Barack Obama.

Challenges happen for business owners, that’s just the way it is. The silver lining is that within the process of overcoming business challenges we’re able to learn the most. What’s more, most people don’t realise that often we get to choose our version of the complex.

The effect of mental attitude on overcoming business challenges

The reality is that it’s hard to get up and drive your business forward every day, but it’s harder to run a failing business. It’s hard to overcome challenges consistently, but it’s harder to feel overwhelmed each day. It’s hard to bring out the best in people, but it’s harder to manage a team that isn’t motivated or happy. It’s hard to embrace change, but it’s harder to be swallowed up as the world around you changes. In a sense, we can choose our hard.

All things are difficult before they are easy.” – Thomas Fuller.

Every day I choose to work hard and equip myself to better myself, my business, my team and our results, as the alternative, to feel like I haven’t done my best that day, is harder. In perspective, it’s harder not to achieve the things I want to achieve. So, instead to overcome our challenges we might be better off taking a step back and changing our mindset, hard I know, but when we challenge ourselves to keep learning and to keep developing new skills and tools, that’s really when we’re on the journey to success.

As we flip day-to-day business challenges and leadership on their head and instead look at them as opportunities for our own growth and development, we may be able to shake the feeling of being stuck, overwhelmed and stressed. At The Power Within Training, we’re able to show and equip you, as business leaders, with the mindset tools and techniques and practical skills to lead your businesses more effectively and successfully and to make the changes that will help drive you towards their goals.
